Works in process

Some projects that are currently or deliberately unfinished, or that aren’t suitable for submission to a publication.

“Reviewjam 2023” (Itch.io, January 2023). An arts and writing jam for creative interpretations of videogame reviews, for which I devised the Amazing Revouija Board (pictured). A search for possibility in a deeply compromised but enduring and ready-to-hand critical form.

“Shuttle” (June 2022). A deck of cards that allow for the interweaving or grinding together of sights and sounds sampled from everyday spaces and artworks. Split the deck and shuffle or flip cards from each pile to create and discard combinations.

“A land in the shape of a question mark” (March 2022). Series of poetic astrolabes, printed with Latin alphabet transcriptions of Voyager record greetings. Turn the rule (curved like the plan view of Voyager’s solar system path) to produce translingual noise. A gentle writing instrument.

“Towards thus / producing” (PDF, December 2021). Part of a series of found texts created by drawing a labyrinth or maze on tracing paper and using it to plot routes around a page. An exploration of the verse possibilities of encoded space. Interesting phrases are picked out in red thread.

Pulsar map to Baudelaire’s soul (PDF, September 2021). First stab at a multiple erasure of the Golden Record’s partial quotation of Charles Baudelaire’s Élévation, inspired by the pulsar map of Earth’s location engraved on the Record’s cover.

Ariane/Cerise (PDF, May 2021), a short verse recreation of the first recorded collision between artificial objects in outer space, taking the form of a dismantling and reconstruction of Thomas Campion’s poem “Cherry-Ripe” inspired by Jackson Mac Low’s deterministic procedures.

Do you remember the garden? (Itch, April 2021). Simple collaborative oral/pen-and-paper artgame in which two people describe a destroyed garden to one another while a third or more write, draw, etc what they hear. Created as part of research into a garden-themed deck of poetry cards.

Acuties (April 2021). Hand-made meditations on cuteness, cruelty, insides/outsides, forgotten or hidden etymologies and quantum physics. Featuring Schrödinger’s cat, French bulldogs and Yeats. What will happen when the boxes are sealed?

Jump cuts, (PDF, February 2021). A brief exploration of videogame topography, duration and the relationship between player and author. See if you can work out how these pieces were composed.

of / coals / the / minutes (PDF, December 2020). A repeated erasure of a single printed-out page from an online recipe for ash bread, exploring histories of making and fabrication as undertaken or managed by the figures of Adam, Eve and the / ape / ticking.

Wanderers (2019, ongoing). A cooperative meditation on planets as wanderers (after their etymological origin in Greek) that intersect in difficult ways with conversations about migration, personhood and national borders. A deck of 81 fragmentary poem cards that are assembled into a nine-line text by two people asking each other questions that can only be answered with a number.

Voyage/yogeva (Chelsea College of Arts, January 2018). An exhibition of found and findable poems based on various planet texts, hidden around the college campus with pens and spare paper so that people can add to them. A not very successful, but interesting first encounter with site-based research and performance.
